The Streetkids of East St. Louis. They want your help!

In case you haven’t heard, GPG won 10,000 in the “Grow St. Louis” Contest.  We are pretty happy because apparently our vet bills just came in, and they are not good news.  The good news is that GPG treats countless dogs that others would simply discard.  We treat heartworm, fighting wounds, hit by car wounds, and more.  We help everyone we can help.   The bad news is that we need those green pieces of paper that we all barter with daily, to continue to help these kids.  It takes money.  After all, our vets can’t live on doggie kisses alone.   Above a short clip of a super friendly grey cat.  We thought he may belong to someone, especially because he is so “normal”.  But the neighbor said that he did not have a home.  Sad.  Because he follows Pj’s car down the road!  And as soon as she gets out he is rubbing all over her.  Does anyone want to give this kitty an indoor foster home?

And then we have Horton, the beautiful Brindle dog that is sweet as can be.  He used to hang out with Mischa, Womba, and Jonesy.  Well, they all got rescued.  Of course we are STILL on the lookout for Womba, who escaped within 24 hours of her winning lottery ticket.  In any case, Horton seems to have made friends with a lot of the dogs.  On this day he was hanging out with “his girl”, who Pj has since named Savvy.  Savvy was either chilled or scared, or both, that morning.  She was shaking a bit.  She has warmed up to Pj though.  But she is not seen everyday.

These cats are such “regulars”.  We are going to be working with a cat colony group, to at least try to stop them from having more babies.  But we would love for all of them to have homes.  They are not “feral” as they let Pj pet them.

RaRa does not want to give up.  She feels like it is “her time”, that living so much of her life on the streets she has already “paid her dues”.  She just needs a foster home.  She would probably do best with a submissive male.

Rebel is a newer little girl on the route.  Pj says she is an adult.  Pretty shy still, but she is coming out when Pj calls and you can tell that she “wants” to be comfortable with us.

Horton & Knuckles.

RaRa wants a foster. Alice, Lloyd, Knuckles, & Kitties.

Ra Ra is just the sweetest, shy little girl.  Somehow, she has never been able to find a foster!!  Even though she is a movie star, appearing in our documentary.  She has spent her entire life on the street and still has the capacity to love & take cookies from Pj’s hand.  Is there anyone out there, please, who will give RaRa a chance??

Knuckles always runs up to greet us.  He is a bit limpy these days and Pj is keeping an eye on him to try to figure out if it’s just cold weather and grumpy joints, or if he may actually have something dislocated.

Kitties……..We are thrilled that our friends are going to being trapping & releasing these kitties soon.  However, we would still love to be able to rescue these kids so they can make it into actual homes.  They aren’t truly feral cats, as they run out to see us each time, and Pj can pet all of them.

Pj tried to talk me into taking our bipolar siamese cat and exchanging her with this sweet guy….but I didn’t bite.  Beautiful “sealpoint” would love a warm lap this winter!  And Mr. Tux is adorable beyond words.

Oh, Lloyd….you are getting gray on the streets.  Amie, our past president, had a major soft spot for this guy (who couldn’t?) and it’s hard to believe he has survived this long!!  Sometimes he is nowhere to be seen for extremely long periods of time and then he just reappears one day.

And below, Alice.  Alice was previously chained up outside of a business and a wonderful friend of Gateway Pet Guardians, decided to get permission to give Alice a refuge from the cold for a long weekend.  Well, that turned into him releasing Alice to her and GPG is taking care of the medical and looking for fosters.  Alice has spent her life on a chain but seems pretty happy & loving here.  She needs a forever home now!

Darlin’ Darren & Alice gets a few days in the Sun.

Above we have Darren.  He is a little guy that GPG had seen just a couple of times on the route, pretty dirty!  We were trying to “track” him, but he was pretty timid here.  One day the opportunity presented itself, and Pj was able to snag him.  Now he is getting medical treatment, which involves an eye surgery-but shortly he will be ready to find his forever home.  Please fill out an application if you are interested.  And below, a follow up on Alice’s weekend “off the chain”.  A wonderful lady, Sheri, was able to take Alice for the weekend.  This provided Alice some much needed time to get off the chain and explore a “real life”.  Hopefully someday this will be Alice’s reality.  Send your prayers & mantras & whatever else you have to offer-to Alice & all the chained dogs out there.

Meet Alice Cooper

These videos are a collage of our recent visits with Alice Cooper.  She is a doll.  She lives at a business in East St. Louis and GPG & SuperSheri make sure that she gets doggie treats, food, and some love on the route.

It has been a crazy time at GPG!!  We have rescued over 40 dogs in the last 2 months, which means 40 canine lives and at least the 40 people lives that the dogs will save.  But what else?  Well, we got our Vet Bill.  We don’t just have an “ordinary” vet bill.  No, because that would mean we have just “ordinary” dogs.  We have very special dogs with all the bells and whistles.  Dogs treated for heartworm, embedded collars, and everything else under the sun.  Eyeball surgeries…..Yes, a recent little “Darren” needs to have an eye removed.  So these are very special kids…..so their very special vet bill is 17,000 and last we heard, ObamaCare, RomneyCare, Medicare, Medicaid….well-they ain’t covering it.  No….seems their plans aren’t sophisticated enough to take care of these little homeless furkids.  So we are, well, I am, grovelling.  If you saw me now, I would be on my knees, at the computer, begging you.  Please.  Purty Please.  Help these kids out!!

The WONDERFUL news, of course, is that Nina, Nigella, & Nina are all in safe hands.  Malcolm is learning to read.  He is still in Kindergarten Reading, but we expect he will excel soon.  It is SO strange going on the route and not seeing those kids!!  Of course Lloyd, Whitney, Audrey, Abiliene, B2, Knuckles, Fingers, Pop, Dodie, & Dinah are still waiting each day.  Oh….and Horton.  He is such a doll.  We rescued his pack of Mischa, Womba, & Jonesy.  Of course Womba escaped and we are still keeping our eyes out for her-and would love for you to do the same.  She was last seen around the MLK Bridge/Arch areas.  So Horton is trying to hook up with a new girl, and we told him if it gets serious he needs to use protection.  You know how they are.  They say “sure, sure, sure”.  And then they don’t.  We want to pull Horton because we think his testosterone will get the better of him (in the form of making new little Hortons-which, albeit would be adorable, but you know, gotta slow the population growth with this climate change thing  :)  So…..anyone want to foster Horton??  And Princess RaRa who seems destined to spend her days outside because no one has even asked about fostering her.  She is a real sweetie but shy.  She would do great with someone that was okay with a shy dog and would help her learn to trust.  RaRa seems super friendly with people, just not sure of us aliens yet.  Please ask about RaRa.  She was in the documentary and she deserves a home.

RaRa, Lloyd, Whitney, Horton & the Kitties of East St. Louis. Feedings 12.29.11

RaRa has lived on the streets her whole life!!  She is allowed to sleep on Tony’s porch, but she does not have a proper home.  We would love to be able to provide a home for her………She is such a sweetie & kind of shy.

Lloyd & Whitney are below.  Abiliene & Audrey are with them, but don’t like to make such “public” appearances.  All these kids are living on the streets of East St. Louis & each would love a chance to live inside a real home.  Where they get hugs daily.

Horton is the puppy above.  We have rescued several of his friends, including Mishca.  But now he is looking for a new friend.  Although he might find a doggie girlfriend, we would prefer for him to find a human companion.  We don’t need him making any more puppies on the street.  He has really warmed up to Pj.

Below are the kitties!  There are a couple of batches of kitties that we see on a regular basis now.  Also looking for fosters……They always come out for food!
